LLANDUDNO JAZZ FESTIVAL
Mark brings us a special piano-less trio with saxophonist Rob Fowler, paying tribute to the great Mulligan/Baker quartet, but also weaving their own magic through some well known, and some not so well known tunes.
Mark Nightingale
played in the Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in his teens. He attended Trinity College of Music from 1985-88. He performed at the 1989 International Trombone Workshop with a trombone quintet called Bonestructure; following this he was asked to return to play at workshops in Germany in 1992, in the U.S. in 1994, and in Austria in 1996. Nightingale toured and recorded with James Morrison in Europe from 1994 to 1997. He has also composed for trombone; published works include 20 Jazz Etudes (1995) and Multiplicity (1996).
Among those with whom Nightingale has played with are John Dankworth, Cleo Laine, Urbie Green, Carl Fontana, Jiggs Whigham, Clark Terry, Slide Hampton, Thilo Berg, Alan Barnes, Bill Holman, Claire Martin, John Wilson (conductor), Clark Tracey, and Stan Tracey. He occasionally directs the BBC Big Band and can often be heard in the band's trombone section. He also plays trombone on Sting's album Ten Summoner's Tales.

Robert Fowler
First started playing saxophone and clarinet whilst at art school in Bristol. His reputation as a broad-toned, swinging tenor player soon grew and he joined the Pasadena Roof Orchestra in 1986. The next ten years saw him touring with the band throughout Europe, the USA and the Far East, and appearing as featured soloist on six of their albums.
Since leaving the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, Robert has worked with many bands and has also released his own CD entitled Front and Centre, which demonstrates the strong influence on his style of some of the greats of the classic jazz era - Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster. He has also been working and touring with Bryan Ferry on his recent album As Time Goes By.
